Hulu Renews “Futurama” For Two More Seasons

Futurama Hulu Poster

Hulu has renewed the adult animated series Futurama from 20th Television Animation for two additional seasons and 20 more episodes. Hulu first revived the series in 2022 with a 20-episode order. Season 11 premiered on July 24 and earned positive reviews, holding an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and appearing on Nielsen’s Top 10 Original Series list for multiple weeks. Season 12 is expected to debut on Hulu in 2024.

Premiering in 1999, Futurama quickly built a loyal audience and earned critical praise, including multiple Emmy Awards. The show follows Philip J. Fry (Billy West), a New York pizza delivery worker who is accidentally frozen in 1999 and wakes in the year 3000. In New New York, he befriends the hard-drinking robot Bender (John DiMaggio) and the cycloptic captain Leela (Katey Sagal). The trio work at Planet Express, founded by Fry’s eccentric descendant Professor Hubert Farnsworth. Alongside Hermes Conrad, Amy Wong and Dr. John Zoidberg, they embark on adventures that lampoon modern life from a futuristic perspective. After years of cancellations, DVD movies and network revivals, Futurama returned as a streaming series on Hulu.

Season 11 synopsis: After a decade-long hiatus, Futurama returns with the original cast and signature satire. Season 11’s ten episodes offer a mix of new viewers’ entry points and longtime fan payoffs, addressing long-running mysteries and exploring timely themes such as vaccines, cryptocurrencies, cancel culture and streaming TV — all with the series’ characteristic humor.
