Usually I’d lead with a charming intro to the recipe, but sometimes it’s better to keep things simple. No frills—just a delightful cocktail you can make any night of the week.
Whether it’s for Valentine’s Day, an Oscars watch party, or a casual Tuesday, this Cherry Bomb cocktail is quick to make and impressive to serve.

Cherry Bomb
Makes 1 cocktail
1.5 ounces gin
3/4 ounce cherry syrup (recipe below)
2 peeled orange sections
a couple dashes of bitters
sparkling wine to top
- In a cocktail shaker, muddle the orange sections to release their juice and oils. Add the gin, cherry syrup, and bitters.
- Fill the shaker halfway with ice and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds.
– To serve on the rocks: Strain into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice.
– To serve up: Fine-strain into a chilled martini or coupe glass. - Top with a splash of sparkling wine. Garnish with fresh cherries or an orange slice, if you like.
Cherry Syrup
10 ounces cherries (fresh or frozen)
1 cup water
1/2 cup honey
- Place the cherries, water, and honey in a saucepan and bring to a boil. If you want a few whole cherries for garnish, set them aside before boiling. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook uncovered for about 10 minutes.
- Carefully transfer the mixture to a blender and puree until smooth. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve to remove solids. Cool and store in a glass jar in the refrigerator for up to a month.
