Carrot Cake Smoothie Recipe Without Banana — Creamy Spiced Blend

A smoothie that tastes just like carrot cake, made with carrots, walnuts, dates, almond milk and an optional splash of vanilla. No bananas, no added sugar — just wholesome ingredients.

Carrot Cake Smoothie (Banana-free, sugar-free, paleo, raw, vegan)

This really is one of my favourite smoothies — a creamy, naturally sweet drink that captures the flavour of carrot cake without using bananas or refined sugar.

The idea started when I had a few carrots to use up and wanted a carrot cake-inspired smoothie. I couldn’t find a recipe that matched what I wanted, so I developed my own version using a handful of simple, natural ingredients.

Many carrot cake smoothie recipes rely on banana, which for me:

a) doesn’t sit well in its raw form, and

b) changes the flavour away from a true carrot cake profile.

This recipe skips bananas entirely and combines carrots, walnuts and dates with warming spices and dairy-free milk to create a thick, smooth, cake-like smoothie that’s packed with flavour and texture.

Ingredients for a banana-free carrot cake smoothie

  • Carrot — Fresh grated carrot provides the base and authentic carrot cake flavour.
  • Walnut halves — Soaked overnight if possible to make them easier to blend and gentler on digestion. Walnuts add a creamy, rich texture and are a classic carrot cake element.
  • Spices — Ground cinnamon plus ground mixed spice (or pumpkin pie spice outside the UK) for that warm, baked-cake aroma.
  • Dates — Natural sweetness. Medjool dates are ideal, but any soft pitted dates will work.
  • Unsweetened dairy-free milk — Almond or coconut milk are great choices; use more or less to reach your preferred consistency.
  • Vanilla extract (optional) — A small amount helps lift the recipe and contributes to that “cake” flavour.
