This blackberry sangria blends red wine, muddled blackberries, and blackberry brandy for a bright, refreshing summer cocktail.
It’s sangria season — time to mix a pitcher and relax. After testing a few large-batch drinks lately, I’m sharing one of my favorites: blackberry sangria. If you want alternatives, a cucumber watermelon punch is ultra-refreshing, and a berry rosé sangria is a great way to use a bottle of rosé. But if you want something dark, fruity, and effortless, this blackberry sangria is a keeper.
Many restaurants serve versions of blackberry sangria, but making it at home is easy, economical, and more satisfying.

Blackberry Sangria Recipe
I prefer recipes that are straightforward and reliable, and this blackberry sangria fits the bill. It’s simple to prepare, bright and fruity, and ideal for hot weather gatherings.

How to Make Blackberry Brandy Sangria
To prepare this sangria you’ll need a large pitcher and a muddler or a sturdy spoon. Start by placing the blackberries and freshly squeezed lemon and lime juice into the pitcher. Gently muddle the berries so about half are crushed — you want fruity juices without completely pulverizing them.
Next, add a bottle of red wine, white rum, and blackberry brandy. Stir everything together, cover, and refrigerate for 2–3 hours so the flavors meld.
Just before serving, pour in the lemon-lime soda for a touch of effervescence and add slices of lemon and lime. Serve over ice, garnished with extra blackberries if you like.

What’s in blackberry sangria?
Basic ingredients for this sangria are: red wine, white rum, blackberry brandy, fresh lemons and limes (juice and slices), lemon-lime soda, and fresh blackberries. Frozen blackberries can be used but make sure they are fully thawed before muddling. You can also use frozen berries as an ice substitute when serving.

What can I use instead of blackberry brandy?
If you’d rather not buy a bottle of blackberry brandy just for this recipe, there are alternatives. Blackberry liqueur or blackberry-flavored vodka will work in its place and still deliver the berry profile. If you do buy a bottle, you can enjoy leftover brandy in other cocktails, such as a berry rosé sangria.
