Even in the coldest months I often crave a creamy, protein-packed dessert in the afternoon. This protein ice cream is a simple way to add around 20–25 grams of protein to your day while feeling like an indulgence.

My daily protein target is over 100 grams, because when I reach that goal I notice my appetite is better controlled. Protein ice cream is one of my favorite tools for hitting that target without sacrificing flavor.

How to Make Chocolate Protein Ice Cream

There are lots of ways to make protein ice cream, but this two-ingredient version is my go-to: frozen banana and chocolate protein powder. That’s it.

Use a food processor or a high-power blender. I keep a stash of frozen bananas in the freezer—peel, break in half, place in a small bag and freeze—so one is always ready when I want a quick treat. If you have a full-size processor you can push the button and walk away; a mini processor works too but may require holding the button while blending.

For flavor variation, swap the chocolate protein powder for vanilla and add a tablespoon of cocoa powder, or stir in mix-ins after blending (chopped nuts, dark chocolate chips, or a spoonful of nut butter). Chocolate remains a favorite because it’s satisfying and chocolatey without much effort.
